Be smart, play smart, and pickup craps the correct way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Current craps evolved from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French headed south and discovered sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is acquired from the name of the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the nation. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn developed the modern craps layout. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he created the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
